“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
If you are reading this, you’ve crossover into a new year, a blessing that is not afforded to everyone, so Happy New Year!!! As 2021 was winding down, I began reflecting on my year, and in my mind, heard Aretha Franklin belting out ”how I got over, how I got over, my soul looks back in wonder, how I got over” because I did just that, I got over. During this past year, I learned a host of lessons that made me realize, just how blessed, I actually am. Equipped with this knowledge, mentally I was ready to greet a new year. Were you ready for the new year? What lessons did 2021 teach you? A new year gives us an opportunity for a fresh start, a new beginning. But in 2021, I learned that we don’t have to wait for a new year to start afresh because GOD gives us NEW MERCIES every single day. That’s right, everyday opportunities for a new beginning exists. So for this week’s blog, let’s talk SHIP about the NEW MERCIES that GOD affords us every day!!
The unlimited possibilities of a new year can be exciting. A new year gives us 365 MORE chances to improve ourselves and to satisfy our goals. “New” means 1: not old: recently born, built, or created. 2: not used by anyone else previously. Since old ways won’t open up new doors, in 2022 we have to explore new ways to open them. That requires us to make some life changes that begin with us taking advantage of GOD’S NEW MERCIES. Typically, I don’t make resolutions, but I do set goals. My goal for this new year is to rely MORE on GOD’S promises of restoration by seizing HIS NEW MERCIES. But how?
The Bible is filled with scriptures that inform us that we are new creatures in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17- tells us that GOD has made us new. Colossians 3:9-11- shares that our old, sinful nature is dead and that we have a new identity in Christ. In Isaiah 43:18-19- GOD instructs us to let go of and to stop dwelling on the things we used to do so we can focus on our new life in Christ. Lamentations 3:22-24- reassures us that even through difficult times, GOD will renew His grace in every situation we face. It assures us that HE will freely give us NEW MERCIES every morning.
Let’s face it, GOD is in the business of making all things new, including you and me. HIS love for us isn’t determined by what we’ve done or where we’re from. Because of that, HIS willingness to continuously give us NEW MERCIES and grace is beyond our understanding but this year, I am opting to understand. In this new year, I will let go and let GOD. I will let go of stress. I will let go of the pain. I will let go of negativity. I will let go of anxiety. I will let go of the past. And I will LET GOD IN by understanding that every day is an opportunity for a fresh start and a new beginning. In 2022, I will LET GOD IN by accepting HIS NEW MERCIES every day!!! Happy New Year!!
