“Everything we do should be a result of our gratitude for what GOD has done for us.”  Lauryn Hill

Everything about the month of November excites me. The brilliantly-colored trees that line my neighborhood streets and the orange, reddish multi-colored leaves that fall from them.  The morning air is fresh, crisp, and cold.  The daylight hours are shorter and the night hours are longer.  November is the season of celebration and Thanksgiving.  We gather with our families and loved ones to reconnect and celebrate each other.   It’s a time when we reflect on and identify things that we are most THANKFUL for.  Do you have an attitude of gratitude?  What or who are you most THANKFUL for?  For this week’s blog, let’s talk SHIP about being THANKFUL!!

Good things happen to us all year long so we don’t have to wait until the fourth Thursday in November to share our THANKFULNESS.  Gratitude and being THANKFUL should be expressed daily. As I began to look back over this past year, I began to ponder what I was THANKFUL for and realized that I was MOST THANKFUL that my family, friends, and I have remained safe and healthy during this pandemic.  THANKFUL that I got the chance to see and spend time with my family and friends this year because I couldn’t last year. THANKFUL for the chance to laugh, hug, and love on those that love me back.  THANKFUL that I was able to celebrate weddings, and milestone birthdays with my friends. THANKFUL that we’ve come a long way since last year but understand that we still have a ways to go.

Gratitude or being THANKFUL is simply a state of mind.  It’s a cognizant effort to see the good in all things even when there may not be any.  THANKFULNESS is the happiness that comes from appreciating the little things in life. Showing gratitude or being THANKFUL has the ability to change your attitude and a change of attitude will change your life.   Study after study shows that people who practice gratitude or THANKFULNESS experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, express more compassion and kindness, and are more peaceful people.  Being THANKFUL can be a life-changing experience.  Once you begin to practice being THANKFUL your blessings will increase.

November also excites me because it’s my birthday month. Saturday was my actual birthday and I am so THANKFUL to GOD for allowing me to see another year and I consider it a gift. I spent my birthday in Palms Springs with the people that I am most THANKFUL for- my family. I’m THANKFUL that I was able to spend the days relaxing and jumping in and out of the pool and the jacuzzi. The benefits of being THANKFUL are real because I’ve experienced it myself. Being THANKFUL for what we have takes our mind off of our lack and activates more blessings. Being THANKFUL provides us with the assurance of knowing that regardless of whatever situation arises, GOD’s Mercy and Grace will be there too –is reason enough to be THANKFUL!!!
